Departures May to September
Itinerary - from Whitehorse
Day 1 Fly to Whitehorse.  Transfer to Westmark Hotel for one night.
Day 2 Scenic drive from Whitehorse to Skagway on the Klondike Highway.  Drive by Emerald Lake, Carcross desert and the small community of Carcross.  
Day 3 This morning travel by ferry from Skagway to Haines. Explore Haines for the rest of the morning.  In the afternoon drive the Haines Highway through the Chilkat Valley and its Bald Eagle reserve.  Later, drive along the perimeter of Kluane National Park.   Overnight at Raven/Alcan Motor Inn. 
Day 4 Drive the Alaska Highway along the Kluane Lake to Alaska.  Overnight at Young's Motel.
Day 5 Travel the Tok Cut-off through mountains and forests to Glennallen, then take the Glenn Highway to Palmer/Wasilla.  En route to Palmer you drive by the Matanuska Glacier and Matanuska River - fabulous for river rafting.  Overnight at Grandview Inn & Suites in Wasilla or similar.
Mountain Biking
Day 6 Drive the Glenn Highway to Anchorage and continue on the Seward Highway. Outside Anchorage travel along the scenic Turnagain Arm.  Take a side trip, if you wish, to Portage Glacier and the old gold mining village of Hope and then continue through scenic landscape to Seward.  In Seward visit the Exit Glacier.  Overnight at Seward Windsong Lodge or similar.
Day 7 We suggest you take a wildlife and glacier cruise into scenic Kenai Fjords National Park before driving back to Anchorage.  Overnight at Inlet Tower Suites/ Ramada Inn or similar.
Day 8 Drive the Glenn Highway to Wasilla, stopping at the Alaska Native Heritage Center and the Eklutna Indian Village.  In Wasilla continue on the Parks Highway north towards Denali National Park.  Drive through the Matanuska-Susitna Valley to Denali State Park, making a side trip to the small gold mining community of Talkeetna.  Two nights at Denali Grizzly Bear Resort or similar. Day 9 Visit Denali National Park on an inclusive tour.  You may see bears, caribou, moose, mountain sheep, wolves and a variety of birds.  Mount McKinley is visible if the weather is clear.  Snack lunch is included.
Day 10 Continue on the Parks Highway to Fairbanks through beautiful forest and mountain landscape.  You will drive through the communities of Healy, Nenana and Ester, an old mining camp.  Overnight at Alpine Lodge or similar.
Day 11 Follow the Richardson & Alaska Highways toward Tok.  Overnight at Young's Motel.
Day 12 Drive the Alaska Highway, Taylor Highway and the Top of the World Highway to Canada/Yukon.  You will enjoy incredible views, weather permitting.  Before you reach Dawson City, cross the Yukon River by state ferry.  Two nights at the Aurora Inn or similar.
Day 13 Explore the Klondike goldfields and the old Gold Rush atmosphere of Dawson City.
Day 14 Travel the Klondike Highway to Yukon's capital city, Whitehorse.  Take a side trip on the Silver Trail Highway to the silver mining towns of Mayo and Keno City.  Overnight at Westmark Hotel or similar.
Day 15 Whitehorse departure.  Return car to Whitehorse car rental station.  At leisure to explore Whitehorse before your flight to the UK.

EXTENSIONS
Driving from Whitehorse, why not spend three or four nights at one of the Yukon Resorts: Tincup Wilderness Lodge, Dalton Trail Lodge or Inn on the Lake to relax?  Driving from Anchorage, take a bear-watching tour to Katmai National Park or Kodiak Island.
EXTENSION: ALASKAN BROWN BEAR VIEWING TOUR
TO KATMAI NATIONAL PARK OR KODIAK ISLAND
KATMAI WILDERNESS LODGE is located at Kukak Bay in Katmai National Park a prime brown bear habitat.  There are viewing platforms from the lodge and guests go out by boat with lodge guides in search of bears and other wildlife.  12 guests are accommodated in comfortable cabins with private bathrooms.  Season is mid May to the end of September.  3, 4 and 7 night programmes are available.

BROOKS FALLS LODGE is located in Katmai National Park and is the most well known for bear viewing.  It has bear viewing platforms and daily ranger activities are offered.  30-40 guests are accommodated in rustic cabins with private toilets and showers.  1, 2 and 3 night stays are available.  If the lodge is full guests can stay at a hotel in King Salmon and travel to the lodge each day.

KODIAK ISLAND AND ZACHAR BAY LODGE - The Kodiak Brown Bear is one of the largest carnivores on earth.  Over 3,000 bears make their home throughout the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge.  Zachar Bay Lodge was a former cannery and has now been renovated to accommodate 22 guests in 11 guest rooms with private facilities.  A stay at Zachar Bay for wildlife viewing in conjunction with 1 or 2 nights in Kodiak City is a great way to enjoy this wonderful island.  It is worth hiring a car for a day, there are numerous walks and beautiful views and visits to the Alutiiq Museum, Russian Orthodox Church and Baranof Museum in Kodiak City are a must.
