QUEBEC FLY DRIVE
13 Nights
Departures from June to October
Itinerary
Day 1  In  Quebec City transfer to the Hotel Le Saint Paul in the centre of the old city for two nights.
Day 2  At leisure to explore Quebec City.
Day 3  Drive from Quebec City to Lac St. Jean (approximately 3 hours) and to the village of Val-Jalbert for two nights’ accommodation in one of the restored houses.  The village, built to support a paper mill and deserted in 1921, represents an interesting part of Canada’s industrial heritage.  Part of the village still looks like a ghost town but the rest has been carefully restored to provide visitors with accommodation and an extremely informative interpretation centre.
Day 4 At leisure in the Lac St. Jean area – take a trip to the lovely waterfall on the river.  The small town of Desbiens, located on both sides of the Rivier Metabetchouane, founded in 1652 as a Jesuit mission, is well worth a visit.  You can also rent a bicycle to explore the area.
Days 5 & 6 American Indians (Montagnais nations) have lived at Lac St. Jean for over 1,000 years.  The next two days will be spent with Gordon Moar who will introduce you to the culture, traditions and customs of these people.  There will be time for wildlife watching, hiking and canoeing.  The journey to Ashuapmushuan reserve is about one and a half hours.  Here you will be met by Gordon and taken to the Ashuapmushuan wildlife reserve for two nights.  Accommodation is in comfortable prospector tents, showers and toilets are in a separate building.
Day 7  Drive to Cap Au Leste (approximately 3 hours).  The lodge is in a beautiful location overlooking the Saguenay Fjord.  All rooms have private bathrooms and the food is delicious.  Activities include hiking, mountain biking, quad biking, kayaking and canoeing.
Day 8 Spend the morning at Cap Au Leste before taking the short drive to Tadoussac for two nights at the Hotel Tadoussac.  This is a very beautiful wilderness area.
Day 9 Enjoy exploring the region and take a half day whale watching tour.
Day 10  Drive from Tadoussac to Malbaie (approximately 2 hours).  En route stop at the Parc des Hautes Gorges de la Rivière Malbaie and take a river cruise, the best way to enjoy the park whose rock faces tower over 800 metres high.  One night at the Manoir Richelieu or Auberge des Trois Canards.
Day 11  Drive through the beautiful Charlevoix countryside towards Baie St Paul.   Stop at Saint Joseph de la Rive and take the ferry to the Ile aux Coudres for the day (about 1 hour).  There is a very attractive watermill and windmill on the island.  Return to Saint Joseph de la Rive and drive to Baie St Paul (half an hour) for two nights at the Auberge La Pignoronde.  The hotel has one of the finest restaurants in Charlevoix.
Day 12  Enjoy the quaint town of Baie St. Paul, an artists’ colony and home to the Cirque de Soleil.  If hiking is your preference, visit Parc des Grands Jardin – the Swan Lake Mountain trail is one of the most beautiful in Quebec.
Day 13  Drive to Ile d’Orleans and visit the Chute de Montmorency.  The falls are one and a half times the height of Niagara Falls.  Continue on to Quebec City, drop off your car.
