| Day 1 |
In Quebec City transfer to the Hotel Le Saint Paul in
the centre of the old city for two nights. |
| Day 2 |
At leisure to explore Quebec City. |
| Day 3 |
Drive from Quebec City to Lac St. Jean (approximately 3 hours) and to the
village of Val-Jalbert for two nights’ accommodation in one of the restored
houses. The village, built to support a paper mill and deserted in 1921,
represents an interesting part of Canada’s industrial heritage. Part of the
village still looks like a ghost town but the rest has been carefully restored to
provide visitors with accommodation and an extremely informative interpretation centre. |
| Day 4 |
At leisure in the Lac St. Jean area – take a trip to the lovely
waterfall on the river. The small town of Desbiens, located on both sides of the
Rivier Metabetchouane, founded in 1652 as a Jesuit mission, is well worth a visit.
You can also rent a bicycle to explore the area. |
| Days 5 & 6 |
American Indians (Montagnais nations) have lived at Lac St. Jean for over
1,000 years. The next two days will be spent with Gordon Moar who will introduce
you to the culture, traditions and customs of these people. There will be time for
wildlife watching, hiking and canoeing. The journey to Ashuapmushuan reserve is
about one and a half hours. Here you will be met by Gordon and taken to the
Ashuapmushuan wildlife reserve for two nights. Accommodation is in comfortable
prospector tents, showers and toilets are in a separate building. |
| Day 7 |
Drive to Cap Au Leste (approximately 3 hours). The lodge is in a
beautiful location overlooking the Saguenay Fjord. All rooms have private
bathrooms and the food is delicious. Activities include hiking, mountain biking,
quad biking, kayaking and canoeing. |
| Day 8 |
Spend the morning at Cap Au Leste before taking the short drive to
Tadoussac for two nights at the Hotel Tadoussac. This is a very beautiful
wilderness area. |
| Day 9 |
Enjoy exploring the region and take a half day whale watching tour. |
| Day 10 |
Drive from Tadoussac to Malbaie (approximately 2 hours). En route
stop at the Parc des Hautes Gorges de la Rivière Malbaie and take a river cruise, the
best way to enjoy the park whose rock faces tower over 800 metres high. One night
at the Manoir Richelieu or Auberge des Trois Canards. |
| Day 11 |
Drive through the beautiful Charlevoix countryside towards Baie St
Paul. Stop at Saint Joseph de la Rive and take the ferry to the Ile aux
Coudres for the day (about 1 hour). There is a very attractive watermill and
windmill on the island. Return to Saint Joseph de la Rive and drive to Baie St
Paul (half an hour) for two nights at the Auberge La Pignoronde. The hotel has one
of the finest restaurants in Charlevoix. |
| Day 12 |
Enjoy the quaint town of Baie St. Paul, an artists’ colony and home to
the Cirque de Soleil. If hiking is your preference, visit Parc des Grands Jardin
– the Swan Lake Mountain trail is one of the most beautiful in Quebec. |
| Day 13 |
Drive to Ile d’Orleans and visit the Chute de Montmorency. The
falls are one and a half times the height of Niagara Falls. Continue on to Quebec
City, drop off your car. |
