WOLVES AND WILDLIFE IN WINTER YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK
11 nights Departures from January to March
During the winter months when Yellowstone National Park is snowbound, wolves can easily be viewed and/or tracked not far from the roadside.  At this time of year the park is closed to motorists but can still be accessed by snow coach (a converted minivan with tracks) or snowmobile.  The lodges of Mammoth and Snow Shoe, next to Old Faithful, are open to visitors.  Staying here will allow you to sample the natural beauty of the park and to participate in the daily guided wildlife tours, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
Since the reintroduction of 16 grey wolves in 1996, their numbers have steadily grown.  There are now several well-established packs within the park’s boundaries, mainly in the north along the Lamar Valley.  Sightings can never be guaranteed but are common.  Each winter as the herds of elk and buffalo start to congregate on lower plains in search of food, predators such as wolves and coyotes can be seen in close proximity trying to pick off the young and weak.
Itinerary - 11 nights
Day 1  Fly from UK to Bozeman, Montana, where you will spend 2 nights. Day 2  At leisure in Bozeman with time to explore this charming cowboy town. Day 3 Transfer to Yellowstone National Park and to Mammoth Hot Springs Lodge for 4 nights with 3 days guided wildlife viewing. Days 4     to 6  Discover the beauty of Yellowstone National Park in winter while viewing wildlife with your guide. Day 7  Transfer by snow coach into the heart of Yellowstone and stay at the Old Faithful Lodge for 3 nights. Days 8    and 9  While at the lodge you can explore the surrounding area, go snowmobiling, cross-country skiing or take a tour to the West Thumb or to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.  It is advisable to reserve these tours when you book your holiday. Day 10  Transfer back to Mammoth Hot Springs Lodge by snow coach for one night. Day 11  Transfer from Yellowstone National Park to Bozeman for your flight to UK. Day 12 Arrive in UK.
