Argentina - Patagonia
Patagonia
Located in Argentina and Chile, Patagonia comprises of the Andes Mountains to the west and south, the central Plateau and to the east the Atlantic Ocean, populated by whales, penguins and dolphins. The high rainfall against the western Andes and the low sea surface temperatures offshore have created ice-fields and glaciers; the largest ice-fields in the Southern Hemisphere outside of Antarctica.
Recommended stay
Estancia Helsingfors
To discover a taste of true Argentina you can choose to stay at an estancia, a working ranch, from which you can explore the surrounding countryside on foot or horseback and see the gauchos at work.
Located 150 miles north of El Calafate, near the Viedma Glacier and the Majestic Mount Fitz Roy, Estancia Helsingfors is an historical ranch offering an oasis among the glaciers, mountains and forests. The rooms are comfortable and the food is excellent. Activities available include trekking, horse riding, sailing through Viedman Glacier, fly fishing and excursions by Zodiac boats.
You could choose to add Estancia Helsingfors to the 'Amazing Argentina' itinerary as an alternative to a stay in El Calafate on day 11.
