Black Bear Viewing in Riding Mountain National Park

4 nights

This wildlife viewing tour offers the opportunity to photograph and learn about the black bear as well as a variety of other animals including moose, deer, elk, timber wolves and bald eagles, in their natural habitat. Spend one night in Winnipeg on arrival and three days within Riding Mountain National Park. This tour can be combined with polar bear viewing in October.

Holiday idea - 4 day or 7 day package

Day 1

Arrive in Winnipeg and transfer to your central hotel for a one night stay.

Day 2

This morning you will pick up your self-drive car and head to Riding Mountain National Park, a three-hour drive from the city. Once in the park, you will check in to your accommodation at the Riding Mountain Guest Ranch for a three-night stay. Meet your Naturalist Guide, Dr. Jim Irwin, and enjoy a welcome dinner. A bear-watching tour will be provided this evening.

Days 3-4

Join your guide on daily, fully-commentated wildlife-viewing safaris and nature walks, as well as the opportunity to visit a vacant bear den. The black bears of Riding Mountain are renowned for their many colour phases - keep an eye out for blonde, taupe, cinnamon, red or chocolate bears. You will have an excellent chance of seeing these secretive forest creatures close-up, from the comfort and safety of a special viewing blind. You may even spot a mother bear with cubs! The park is home to a bison herd as well as moose, elk, deer, coyotes, timber wolves, and Bald eagles. Mid-day periods are free to use the recreational facilities at the ranch, such as hiking trails, canoes, kayaks, hot tub and horseshoe pits.

Day 5

Return to Winnipeg today, and return your rental car. Spend your final night in Winnipeg.

Day 6 Return to the airport for your flight home.
