Bike and Hike Western Newfoundland

7 nights

This energetic adventure is a fantastic way to see the 10,000 year old west coast of Newfoundland. Spend up to eight hours a day cycling and hiking the along Port au Pont Peninsula, through Gros Morne National Park and up to L’Anse aux Meadows with an overnight stay at the lighthouse on Quirpon Island.

Holiday idea

Day 1

Arrive Deer Lake Airport, Newfoundland. Meet and greet and van transfer to Port au Port for Orientation. Overnight Port au Port Peninsula.

Day 2

4-6 hours/40km bike with a selection of hiking trails.

Cycle the South side of the picturesque Port au Port Peninsula taking in the breathtaking rugged coastal scenery of this Peninsula. The day will entail some small hikes as well as some onshore whale watching. Overnight Port au Port Peninsula.

Day 3

4-6 hours/A morning hike followed by the completion of Port au Port on bike (45km).

Hike “La Route de Mon Grand-Pere” to start your day then cycle the north side of the Port au Port Peninsula absorbing the spectacular and unique landscape along this route. Van transfer to Steady Brook. Overnight Steady Book.

Day 4

8 hours/80km (Mountain Bike) Ride from Hughes Brook to Woody Point.

Today the ride is truly spectacular as you pass through pristine forest, sparkling lakes and dramatic valleys. On arrival into Woody Point enjoy a water taxi ride across to Norris Point where you will overnight. Overnight Gros Morne National Park.

Day 5

Gros Morne National Park. (6-8 hours) Day of Options:

1. Hike Gros Morne Mountain

2. Full day Kayaking Trip (additional charge)

3. Enjoy some leisure time exploring Lobster Cover Lighthouse and the Western Brook Fjord Cruise (additional charge).

Van transfer to Portland Creek. Overnight Portland Creek.

Day 6

8-10 hours/250km

An early start today with some long riding. The route is usually assisted by a tailwind. The wind and the coastal view will quicken your journey and make your ride more comfortable. See the landscape change from dramatic fjords to open terrain to dense forest. Van support will be nearby if needed. Overnight Main Brook.

Day 7

2 hours/ 30km of biking

A relaxing day riding from Main Brook to L’Anse aux Meadows for lunch. After lunch cycle to Norstead a Viking Village re-enactment site before riding to Quirpon Dock. You will be met on arrival and transferred by small power boat over to Quirpon Island. Overnight at Quirpon Lighthouse Inn. Quirpon Island is one of Newfoundland’s best locations in season for whale watching and iceberg viewing as they drift the Labrador Current on their journey south.

Day 8

Mid Morning depart Quirpon Island and transfer by small boat over to Quirpon Dock. Van transfer to St. Anthony Airport or van transfer to Deer lake Airport ready for your onward journey.
