Patagonian Spa in the Chilean Lake District
4 nights
Famous for its spectacular scenery of blue mountain lakes, snow capped volcanoes, ancient forests and traditional folklore, Chile’s Lake District offers year round activities, including hiking, fjord cruises and geo-thermal pools. The network of lakes stretches 300 km from Temuco to Puerto Montt and between the lakes are rivers, waterfalls, hot springs and the Andes.

The remote Puyuhuapi Lodge & Spa is reached only by boat and is a wonderful place to relax on the coast north of Cohaique. Enjoy thermal baths in both outdoor pools and indoor spas; relax with thalassotherapy treatments or massages. You can take excursions to the Queulat National Park, ride a bike on the Carretera Austral or sail or kayak through the fjords. You can also visit the San Rafael Glacier on the Patagonia Express. Each area of the lodge has been designed to face the sea and all of the spacious and comfortable guest rooms have a private terrace.

| Day 1 |
On arrival at Balmaceda Airport, you will be met and begin your tour through the Aysen region, crossing the Patagonian pampas to the city of Coyhaique. Along the way you are likely to spot caiquenes (wild geese) and flocks of bandurrias (storks) in the grass. After lunch you will continue along the Austral Road to Puyuhuapi Lodge & Spa. The journey is spectacular and takes about five hours. Much of the trip is on a gravel road. The final part of your journey is a ten minute journey by boat across the Puyuhuapi Channel. |
| Days 2 & 3 |
There are footpaths for walks through the forest, visits to the Qeuelat National Park with its Hanging Glacier, easy bicycle trips along the Austral Highway, or you can explore Dorita Bay in kayak. If you wish, you may rent a motor boat to explore the southern fjords. The spa's facilities are complete. Enjoy its large hydro-massage pool, jacuzzis, spring water fountain and steam sauna, as well as thalassotherapy sessions, relaxation massages, facial and other treatments. The outdoor thermal pools at the edge of the ocean are well worth a try. |
| Day 4 |
At 7.00 am, board the Patagonia Express catamaran and begin your journey through the Austral fjords on your way to the San Rafael Lagoon. The seven hour route is a sheer delight to the senses: the clarity of the water and the majesty of the Andes Mountains, you may even by lucky enough to see dolphins. You finally reach the Témpanos River, which leads to the San Rafael Lagoon and its glacier. After a visit of approximately two hours, your return trip begins, arriving in Puerto Chacabuco around 10.30 pm, where you will be transferred to a hotel for the night. |
| Day 5 | After breakfast, travel along the route that follows the Simpson River, from Chacabuco to Coyhaique, and to Balmaceda Airport. |
