Algonquin Log Cabin

The Algonquin Log Cabin, beautifully situated on the shores of Surprise Lake, can accommodate up to 12 guests and offers comfortable amenities while preserving an interior decor that is simple and in harmony with nature. Cabin features include shared indoor washroom facilities, kitchen, dining area with fireplace, lounge, double occupancy rooms, wide porch, and sauna with access to hot shower (separate building). There is no cell phone coverage or electricity in the cabin.

Overview

In Algonquin you can take a canoe out on your own and plan your own route in the park for as many days as you choose or you can join an escorted canoe trip of between 3 and 5 days with a mixture of camping and lodge stays.


Day by Day Itinerary


Day 1 |  Toronto to Algonquin Provincial Park

Your adventure begins at the Algonquin Log Cabin (12:30) at the northwest corner of Algonquin Park. After lunch, the group loads their packs and departs by canoe into Algonquin Park, receiving a lesson on paddling along the way.


Camp is set camp on a scenic point covered in Red Pines, followed by a delicious meal cooked by a campfire. Relax under the stars before retiring to individual tents for the evening.

Day 2 | Algonquin Log Cabin, Algonquin Provincial Park

After a tasty breakfast, break camp and paddle east through a series of classic Algonquin Park lakes.


A floating lunch provides the energy to paddle up a bog with great opportunities to see beaver, Great Blue herons and moose.


The final stop is on a beautiful lake with time to hike, swim, fish or relax. Enjoy freshly baked bannock bread cooked over the fire and listen to legends and myths of travelling through the Canadian wilderness.

Day 3 | Algonquin Log Cabin, Algonquin Provincial Park

The smell of fresh coffee and bacon frying for breakfast starts the day, followed by a hike through a mixed maple forest, learning about the unique mix of flora and fauna.


Discover how to paddle and navigate a canoe solo, stopping along the way for a large smorgasbord lunch. Reaching the shore landing in the late afternoon, transfer by truck to the Algonquin Log Cabin.


Check into your room, take a shower, enjoy the sauna, and perhaps indulge with some wine and cheese followed by a delicious dinner at the Algonquin Log Cabin.

Day 4 | Algonquin Log Cabin, Algonquin Provincial Park

After breakfast, head out for the day to explore the trails around the Algonquin Log Cabin. A hike along the trail to Music Lake features an interpretation of the boreal forest, the beaver pond, and spruce bogs.


Partake in a picnic lunch at Music Lake before hiking to Surprise Lake where a 26-foot (8 metre) Voyageur Canoe awaits. Enjoy a leisurely paddle on an island hopping route down the lake before arriving back at the Algonquin Log Cabin.


The remainder of the afternoon is free to relax, swim or take a sauna. A uniquely Canadian dinner is followed by a “Voices of Algonquin” night paddle.

Day 5 |  End of trip

After breakfast, take one last excursion on a morning wild edible walk to Lookout Bluff overlooking Algonquin lakes and work up an appetite for a delicious lunch.
