Bear & Wildlife Viewing
You’ll see mighty brown bears fishing for salmon, mothers raising their cubs, and sometimes even black bears and cubs roaming the untouched wilderness. Experienced guides lead you safely and quietly to these incredible sights, providing a unique wildlife experience.
Sea Kayaking
As part of your lodge experience, you’ll have the chance to kayak along the stunning Alaskan coastline of Kukak Bay. Paddle through calm waters while spotting otters, eagles, seals, and more. Whether you’re new to kayaking or an experienced paddler, the guided tours are designed to be safe, fun, and a perfect way to see Katmai’s natural beauty.
Wellness Activities
Wellness activities are part of your stay to help you unwind and recharge from a full day of sightseeing. Our onsite studio allows you to enjoy calming sessions like yoga, stretching, meditation, jiu-jitsu, and more.
Fishing & Dining
During your stay, you’ll have the chance to fish for wild salmon or trout in the beautiful waters near the lodge. After your adventure, our expert chef will prepare a fresh, wild-to-table meal using your own catch along with other local ingredients.
Overview
Unlike other Alaska lodges, Katmai Wilderness Lodge offers a truly exclusive, small-group bear-viewing experience without crowds, viewing platforms, or tourist noise. Tucked away in the heart of 4.6 million acres of pristine wilderness, we are the most remote bear viewing lodge in Alaska. It is only accessible by air, with guest arrivals exclusively by floatplane.
With small groups and about one guide for every six guests, you’ll get personal attention and a real connection to nature. After a day of bear viewing, you can unwind in a guest room with a full or queen bed, a seating area, a full bathroom, and a private balcony facing the water. Whether it’s your first time in Alaska or not, we promise you’ll feel right at home.
