Bear habitat: This programme offers one of the best opportunities for bear viewing, although with nature this can never be guaranteed. Starting in the middle of July, salmon runs enter the river systems throughout the region. That attracts bears and this area becomes the prime habitat for the feeding of sows and cubs. There is also a good chance to see the bigger male bears called boars.

Fly from the UK to Anchorage. Please ask us for competitive fares.

Accommodation: The facilities include 4 deluxe cabins with a private bath and high-end interior finishes including bamboo and tile flooring. Other amenities include toiletries and WI-FI. The guest cabins are directly at the water’s edge and each cabin has a private outdoor deck where bears and other wildlife can often be seen. Each cabin has one queen size and one twin size bed accommodating up to two adults.

Overview

Kodiak Brown Bear Center is located in the heart of the 1.9 million acre Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge, one of the most productive watersheds in the world and home to one of the highest densities and concentrations of brown bears in the world, offering amazing opportunities to see the famous and legendary Kodiak brown bear at home in their natural habitat. It is the perfect place for any bear enthusiast to immerse themselves in the observation, photography and learning about the largest carnivore on earth!

Situated on a 58 acre site known as Camp Island, on Karluk Lake with over 30 miles of shoreline and countless tributaries, creating the highest salmon concentrations on Kodiak. This offers visitors unparalleled access and opportunities to observe bears in their natural surroundings from viewing areas strategically located in the field as well as a custom built 30' catamaran. Camp Island affords a lodging buffer from the abundant bear activity around the perimeter of the Lake and provides a curious and entertaining population of local wildlife such as deer, fox and river otter.

Day by Day Itinerary

The itinerary is designed to take advantage of the best opportunities in the park, but may be adjusted to adapt to weather conditions, animal movements, holidays, and road construction.

Day 1 | Arrive in Anchorage

Welcome to Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska with only 250,000 people and a city which has undergone quite a change since the earthquake of 1964. Now a bustling city fuelled by the oil boom and tourism, it wasn't that long ago that Anchorage was the last outpost before heading into the 'Last Frontier'. It's also common place to find bear roaming the outskirts of the city.

A great way to spend your day is wandering around the town getting a feel for the 49th state, speaking to the locals and breathing in that fresh Alaskan air! Visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center and Eklutna Indian Village to really get a sense of the state’s history and culture.
