Peru can be visited year-round, but the most popular months are from May to October when conditions are generally drier across the Andes and ideal for visiting Machu Picchu and Cusco.


April, May, September and October often offer excellent weather with fewer visitors, while the green season between November and March brings lush landscapes and quieter archaeological sites.

There are currently no direct flights between the UK and Peru.


Most travellers fly from London Heathrow Airport to Lima via major European hubs such as Madrid, Amsterdam or Paris.


Airlines commonly used include British Airways, Iberia, KLM and Air France.


Typical journey times range from 15–18 hours depending on connections.

Day by Day Itinerary

 

Day 1 | Arrive in Lima

Arrive in Lima, Peru's coastal capital, where you'll be met and transferred to your hotel. Spend the remainder of the day relaxing after your international flight or exploring the vibrant districts of Miraflores and Barranco at your own pace.

Day 2 | Explore Lima

Discover the fascinating history and culture of Lima on a guided city tour. Explore colonial architecture, elegant plazas and historic churches, alongside archaeological sites that reveal Peru's pre-Columbian past.


Highlights include the historic centre, colourful neighbourhoods and some of the city's renowned culinary scene.

Day 3 | Fly to Cusco & Discover the Sacred Valley

Fly into the Andes and arrive in the former capital of the Inca Empire, Cusco. After time to acclimatise to the altitude, begin exploring this remarkable city where Spanish colonial architecture sits atop ancient Inca foundations.


Visit local markets, historic plazas and impressive archaeological sites while learning about the fascinating history of the region.

Day 4 | Sacred Valley to Aguas Calientes

Travel through the spectacular Sacred Valley of the Incas, passing traditional villages, terraced hillsides and dramatic mountain landscapes.


Later, board the scenic train journey to Aguas Calientes, nestled beneath Machu Picchu. Spend the evening exploring the lively town and preparing for tomorrow's unforgettable visit to the ancient citadel.

Day 5 | Machu Picchu

Rise early to experience the wonder of Machu Picchu.


Accompanied by an expert guide, explore one of the world's most extraordinary archaeological sites. Discover sacred temples, ceremonial plazas, agricultural terraces and breathtaking viewpoints while learning about the remarkable achievements of the Inca civilisation.


After your visit, return by train to Cusco.

Day 6 | Cusco to Puno

Journey across the high Andes towards Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca.


Along the route, visit fascinating historical and cultural landmarks including beautiful colonial churches, ancient archaeological sites and traditional Andean communities. The dramatic scenery of the Altiplano makes this one of Peru's most memorable overland journeys.

Day 7 | Lake Titicaca

Spend the day exploring the legendary waters of Lake Titicaca.


Visit the famous floating islands built by the Uros people and learn about their unique way of life. Continue to traditional island communities where ancient customs, colourful textiles and warm hospitality provide a fascinating insight into Andean culture.


Overnight: Puno


Day 8 | Return to Lima

Transfer to the airport for your flight back to Lima.


Enjoy a final afternoon in Peru's capital city, perhaps exploring local markets, sampling world-famous Peruvian cuisine or enjoying views across the Pacific coastline.

Transfer to the airport for your onward flight home.
