Overview
Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Resting at the foothills of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountain Range, in central Kenya's Laikipia County, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa. It is also home to some of the last remaining northern white rhino in the world. Originally a working cattle ranch in colonial Kenya and now a pioneering wildlife conservancy, Ol Pejeta works to protect wildlife and provide a sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees. The Conservancy is a popular safari destination and is home to the renowned ‘Big Five’ as well as a wide selection of other African animals including zebra, giraffe, hippo, cheetah, jackal, serval, hyena, vervet monkey, and many more. Visitors can look forward to an assortment of outdoor activities such as horse rides, Safari walks, and nocturnal game drives.
Ol Kinyei Conservancy
As one of the sixteen conservancies that are part of the renowned Maasai Mara, the Ol Kinyei Conservancy is a pristine wilderness area characterised by open savannah plains, riverine forests, springs, rivers, and rolling hills. The conservancy is inhabited by a wide variety of animal species for which the Mara is famous including lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, and wild dog. The wildebeest migration also passes through Ol Kinyei when herds from the eastern plains of Loita join the migration to the Mara Reserve. An impressive array of bird species also inhabit the park, including grey crowned crane and some exciting endemic species. Visitors can look forward to morning, evening, and late-night game drives guided walks with expert local Maasai guides and drinking sundowners at a number of scenic points within the conservancy.
Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 | Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Pick up from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or City hotel and transfer to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport for the morning flight to Nanyuki. You will be met at the airstrip and transferred to Porini Rhino Camp, located in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, in the foothills of Mount Kenya.
Spend 3 nights at Porini Rhino Camp (fully Inclusive of meals, beer, wine, soft drinks, mineral water, gin & tonics, game drives, sundowners, visit to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary and park fees). Enjoy lunch and afternoon tea in camp and then head off on a game drive with your driver-guide in the camp’s 4×4 safari vehicle.
Return to Porini Rhino Camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 2 & 3 | Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Enjoy two full days at Ol Pejeta Conservancy, engaging in game drives and guided walking activities starting from the camp.
Optional activities, available at an additional cost, include a visit to the Endangered Species Boma, home to the world’s last two remaining northern white rhinos, as well as lion Tracking.
Dinner and overnight accommodation will be provided at Porini Rhino Camp.
Day 4 | Ol Kinyei Conservancy
Begin your day with an early morning game drive followed by breakfast, then transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to the Masai Mara.
Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to Porini Mara Camp, where lunch will be served.
In the afternoon, embark on a game drive with a sundowner at a scenic location, followed by a night game drive using spotlights to search for nocturnal animals, including the elusive leopards that reside in Ol Kinyei Conservancy.
Return to camp for dinner and overnight at Porini Mara Camp.
Day 5 | Ol Kinyei Conservancy
Enjoy a full day to explore the Conservancy at your leisure, or opt for a game drive in the renowned Masai Mara Reserve. If you choose the latter, a picnic lunch will be provided in the park before returning to camp in the late afternoon.
Later in the evening, unwind with a sundowner in the Conservancy followed by a night game drive. C
onclude your day with dinner and an overnight stay at Porini Mara Camp.
NB: for 1 July to 30 September we have already included a one day fee to view the Migration in the Reserve.
Day 6 | Ol Kinyei Conservancy
A full day to explore the Ol Kinyei Conservancy and Naboisho Conservancy, on the lookout for elephants, buffalo, giraffe, plains game and the big cats.
Wake up at dawn and enjoy an early game drive , returning to camp for a late breakfast followed by an escorted nature walk and then lunch.
In the afternoon enjoy another game drive in the Ol Kinyei Conservancy with a night drive as you head back to camp driving in the dark with a spotlight for the chance to see the nocturnal animals.
Dinner and overnight at Porini Mara Camp.
Day 7 | Departure
Begin your day with an early morning game drive in the Ol Kinyei Conservancy, returning to Porini Mara Camp for breakfast. You will transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to either the international airport or a Nairobi hotel.
(please note that hotel accommodation is not included but can be arranged for an additional fee).
You may choose to add extra nights at any of the Porini Camps. Alternatively, consider extending your stay by flying to the Kenya Coast or the Island of Zanzibar, where you can unwind on the pristine white beaches of the Indian Ocean.
